I've created a concept map that explains the outcome of some of the important battles of the Civil War. I would use the concept map as a supplement to a lecture. It would be helpful because after the short lecture I would assign the students to create a concept map explaining other important battles that had taken place during the Civil War. The students would be assigned to groups of four with each student choosing a battle to cover. They would use my map as the guideline to creating their own map. I would have them use the same sub topics, but would assign for them to add 3 interesting facts to each battle instead of one. They would also be assigned an assignment they would do on their own which would consist of them writing a short paragraph on why they chose the battle that they chose and why they feel that the battle was important to the outcome of the Civil War. This assignment would give the students a better understanding of exactly how the Civil War was fought by both sides and won by the Union.

Making boring history exciting
Throughout high school the most boring classes for me was always history. I really enjoy history, but every history class that I was in had an extremely boring teacher with extremely low enthusiasm.
